************************************
Our class for May-June, 2026
************************************

Course Rationale:
How did a little settlement on the southern coast of California become a global metropolis within a human lifetime? That question will be explored in the course of this class. We will
learn about the people who brought shipping, railroads, water and culture to Los Angeles in the period following the Civil War to about the turn o f the century. We will visit the homes of Phineas Banning, Henry Huntington, and "Lucky" Baldwin: three of the most influential figures in the development o f Los
Angeles during the late 1800s and early 1900s.
Additionally, we will learn about new cross-disciplinary lessons for delivering content to students, including those that are traditionally “under-served” in classrooms.
