Our class for May-June, 2025 ************************************ Course Rationale: What were the adobe ranchos of Victorian Los Angeles, and how did they contribute to the cultural heritage that influences our city to this day? We will explore the answers to those questions as we learn about the adobe ranchos of early L.A., and how they influenced various social, artistic and cultural aspects of the city Angelenos call home. We will also discuss and apply ways in which this heritage can be used across the curriculum, not only in history, but in English, Social Studies, Art, Music, Science and even Math. The purpose of this class is to provide educators with knowledge and experience that will enable them to "tap into" the wealth of cultural resources available to them in the greater Los Angeles area. Even if you have previously visited any or all of the three sites we will visit, it is hoped that you will learn, see and experience new things at each site, and that you will be better prepared to share your enrichment with your students. |
